The StormBox® shelter, bolted to a concrete foundation and placed strategically between Vilonia City Hall, the senior citizens center, and the fire station, has an official capacity of forty people and is certified by the National Storm Shelter Association (NSSA) to withstand even the most powerful EF5 tornadoes. The United States experiences over one thousand tornadoes every year. With swirling winds that reach upwards of 300 miles per hour, nature’s most violent storms kill over sixty people annually with flying or falling debris. Ten-foot, twenty-foot, and forty-foot StormBox® containers are available for capacities of 20, 40, and 80 people. They meet FEMA361 and ICC500 standards and have been impact-tested by the Texas Tech National Wind Institute.
